Here's Why it's Vital to Pay Attention to the Weather

Today’s story is about how weather has a HUGE impact on our health.

This story happened a long time ago, in the days when Dr. S was still in school. On this particular day, Dr. S was spending the day in a casino in Las Vegas. She wasn’t drinking alcohol, but she wasn’t hydrated enough for the extreme Vegas climate. Dr. S stepped out of the air-conditioned casino and into the dry blazing heat...and she became dizzy immediately. The world spun around her like she was on the teacup ride at Disneyland. She didn’t pass out all the way, but she did have some intense dizziness.

Here’s what happened - when she stepped outside, her blood pressure dropped because her blood vessels expanded in the heat. Her heart was already weak from overworking and overthinking… meaning that it didn’t have enough power to pump the blood up to her head. That’s why she felt so dizzy so fast.

Now, how would you prevent something like this from happening? First and foremost, keep yourself very cool and very hydrated. The drier you are, the faster you’ll get hot. This is because there’s not enough water to stabilize temperature changes in your body. Think of a desert - the reason it’s so extremely hot and cold is because there’s no water to keep the temperature stable. The more hydrated you are, the less likely you are to faint in the heat. Drink lots of water, and make sure to rub oil on your body to lock the water in.

And that’s the story for today. If you want to learn more about how to keep your body in harmony with your climate, sign up for one of our Ayurveda classes.
